Fitraat Focus

Note · Peter Gollwitzer

Decide before you start, not during

Gollwitzer showed that ‘I will work when X happens’ beats ‘I will try to be disciplined.’ The decision is made while you are calm, not while you are avoiding the task.

In Fitraat Focus

  • Prepare is the if-then: this time, this place, this intention.
  • Activation is the cue that starts work — a short ritual, then Begin Deep Work.
  • If you get pulled away, the closing ritual is how you put the work down cleanly so tomorrow’s start is cheaper.

Keep this

  • Write the outcome before the timer. Do not invent it mid-session.
  • A small start ritual is a plan, not a mood.
